
Why we basically try to kill our bathroom heaters before they reach you
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere, random splashes of water, and the temperature jumping from freezing to sauna-hot in minutes. If a seal slips or a coating flakes off, the heater doesn’t just stop working—it shorts out. That’s a mess nobody wants. So, we don’t just “hope” our units are waterproof. We put them in a lab and try our hardest to break them.
The “Steam Room” Test
We take every batch of our IP65 infrared lamps and lock them in a chamber. We crank the humidity up to 95% and keep the heat high for hundreds of hours. It’s brutal. Why? Because moisture is sneaky. It doesn’t just stay on the outside; it migrates. Water vapor finds the tiniest micro-cracks in the housing or slowly eats away at the silicone gaskets. If that seal isn’t perfect, moisture hits the wiring, the terminals rust, and the whole thing dies. We’d rather find that out in our lab than have you find it out in your shower.
The “Breathing” Problem
Infrared lamps get hot. Really hot. When you flip the switch on and off in a damp room, the materials expand and then shrink back down. It’s almost like the heater is “breathing.” This movement can actually suck moisture right into the guts of the machine. During our tests, we watch for this. We check for even a single tiny drop of condensation inside the lens. If we see one? The design is tossed. Back to the drawing board.
The Balancing Act
Here’s the tricky part: sealing something tight to keep water out also traps heat inside. If we seal it too well, the electronics basically cook themselves. To fix this, we use specific heat-conducting alloys for the chassis that help pull the heat away from the sensitive parts. It gives you a waterproof heater that doesn’t melt from the inside out. Just a heads-up: because of how this works, make sure you leave a little bit of breathing room around the unit when you install it. A bit of airflow goes a long way in making your heater last for years.
